Our Vision | Tō Mātou Kaupapa
Te Waiora House exists to provide a peaceful place of rest, reflection and renewal — a space where anyone can step away from the busyness and strain of daily life. Surrounded by gardens, mountains and countryside, guests are invited to experience the stillness of creation, meet with God, and leave feeling loved, restored, and refreshed in body, mind and spirit.
Our History
Te Waiora House was born from the faith and vision of Patricia Entwistle. After returning from missionary work in Pakistan due to illness, Patricia recognised the deep need for a place where people could recover, reflect and reconnect with God. Inspired by her time at the Titoki Healing Centre and affirmed through prayer and conversation, Patricia shared her vision with others who helped bring it to life.
With support from Christian leaders and community members, the Te Waiora (Canterbury) Healing Centre Trust was officially formed in 1984.
The name Te Waiora, meaning "the living waters", reflects our commitment to holistic healing — physical, emotional and spiritual — in the presence of God.
What People Are Saying
“Te Waiora House is a truly special place. The peaceful setting, beautiful grounds, and thoughtful layout, especially the chapel, lounge, and well-equipped kitchen, create an atmosphere of rest and reflection. There was a real sense of God’s presence as we spent time in prayer, both individually and together. Many in our group found the reflective prayer walk particularly meaningful. We would love to return in the future.”
“Entering the chapel, I was filled with awe. The room I stayed in had a verse on the wall: “Be still and know that I am God.” That verse anchored my time at Te Waiora. I came thinking I had reached a certain level spiritually, but God gently showed me how much I still have to grow. I’m thankful for that revelation.
Thank you to everyone who holds this place open for people like me. May God’s presence and the sweet anointing of the Holy Spirit continue to rest on Te Waiora House. To Him be the glory.”
